If you’ve ever walked into the studio during a quiet moment, you know there’s a certain kind of "hush" before the music starts. But if you’ve been here on a Company night, you know that hush is replaced by something else entirely: laughter, the sound of heavy breathing after a hard run-through, and the collective "You’ve got this!" shouted from across the room. This is only stronger on long convention days or after a dance competition.
As a teacher, my favorite part of the job isn't the perfect pirouette (though, don't get me wrong, I love those too!). It’s watching a dancer realize they are capable of so much more than they thought. When we talk about The Oaks Dance Company, or our committed dance team we’re talking about building a "second home" right here in Santaquin. Whether you’re coming from Payson, Genola, or Mona, when you walk through these doors, you’re part of a family that wants to see you reach your potential!
There is a specific kind of confidence that grows when you’re on a team. It’s the psychological "safety net" of knowing that if you stumble during a Calypso or lose your balance in a Fouetté, there are ten other sets of hands ready to help you back up.
In our Senior, Junior, and Mini Companies, we aren't just teaching steps; we’re teaching grit. When a Senior dancer finally sticks that Triple Pirouette or a Mini nails their Leg Hold, that sparkle in their eyes is confidence in their ability to become whoever they want to be. They’re learning that they can do hard things—a skill that will serve them long after they hang up their dance shoes.
We’ve dreamed up an incredible year for our dancers. It’s a step up in commitment, but the rewards are life-changing:
The Big Stage: From our Semester Shows, school performances, dance conventions, dance competitions, and our special Company Showcase, these kids live for the spotlight.
Attending Step Up Dance Convention with master teachers from across the country

Weekly choreography class with members of the company
The connection, trust, and increased growth from being part of a dedicated company

Learning from the Best: We’re heading to the Step Up Dance Convention in October to learn from master teachers. It’s two days of pure inspiration! This is many of the dancer's favorite weekend of the year where they learn from dancers across the United States! They focus, learn, dance, grow, and support each other as a team through an intensive unlike they've experienced before.
A "Whole Dancer" Approach: We’ll explore everything from the power of Acro and Hip Hop to the grace of Lyrical and Ballet. Dancers who learn to be versatile and uderstand multiple dance genres add more colors and textures to their dance palette. They become stronger as artists and find their own favorite genres.
You’ll see in our contract that we ask for 90% attendance and a full-year commitment (August 18th – May 22nd). I know that sounds like a lot! Here’s the "why" behind it: Dance is a team art. Commitment is the only way for these dancers to have the full power and support of a team that always has your back!
When a dancer stops coming, the "connection" of the company ripples. We teach our students that showing up isn't just for them—it’s for the person standing next to them. It’s about Teamwork, Respect, and Excellence. We’re raising humans who know how to keep a promise. This lesson allows them to accomplish anything! Without these traits, they can be easily stopped by any challenge or trial that stands in their way. We want to help these dancers accomplish anything!
If your dancer has been dreaming of more—more stage time, more challenge, and more friendships—we want to see them on Saturday, May 9th. Confirm their attendance or ask questions to Oakley @ (801) 361- 6700
Senior Oaks (Advanced): Show us those Tilt Hops and Ala Seconde turns! These are committed and excellent artists!
Junior Oaks (Intermediate): We're looking for Axle Hops and smooth floor transitions. These dancers have the passion to move mountains.
Mini Oaks (Beginning & Committed): If they can do a Single Pirouette and a Handstand with a giant smile, they’re ready! We love the kids that dance in the kitchen and never want to stop!
Times:
Ages 11-18: 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM (Warmup at 10 AM)
Ages 10 & Under: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM (Warmup at 11 AM)
Parents, I know the "dance mom/dad" life is busy. Between the costume fees, rehearsals and performances, it’s a journey for you, too. But I promise you, when you see your child stand on that stage with the confidence of a leader and the heart of an artist, it will all be worth it.
If you have any worries about costs or schedules, please come talk to me. We’ll find a way to make it work. I can’t wait to see your dancers shine.
Let’s dance, learn, and grow together!
With love,
Miss Oakley The Oaks Dance Studio
